Posted: 17 Dec 2016 09:56 AM PST Hey people, I don't know if it's allowed to link the app, so I won't just in case. Anyway, there's a new app called "Buzz" which is pretty much a copy of Yik Yak, with the difference that it's designed for highschool students. It's currently extremely popular in Serbia. Even though the app is advertised as being monitored "24/7" by moderators, that's far from truth. Every time I look at it's literally loaded with hate speech, bullying, harassment, witch hunting, but also calling for suicide or murder of kids and teachers (with their first and last name) and comments that encourage those calls. It takes over 24 hours, and sometimes 48 for moderators to remove such content, which is too slow. Situation is so serious that even the prosecutor's office and our ministry of education made statements on this app. They acknowledged that there are crimes being committed on this app, but they don't have means of blocking this app. Anyway, I decided to take action and report this app to Google. I provided them screenshots, translations, links to mentioned statements, links to mainstream media articles that are reporting about abuses. I don't have any previous experience with Google Play support, but I've read that it's on Steam level of support, which is quite discouraging. I don't believe that many people beside me reported this app, as majority of people in my country are tech illiterates and don't speak English very good. I believe that Yik Yak is blocked in elementary and high schools because there were heavy abuses like this. And "Buzz" app is even categorized as PEGI 3! I might be just wasting my time, but will at least try to do something. I have no doubt that the developer will add ads in near future and try to monetize this app. So, will only one report be enough for Google to take action? Situation is very serious as kids as young as 14 are being harassed daily with this app. I don't even want to imagine what can happen as a long term consequence of this kind of harassment. Battery usage - Chrome vs Firefox? Posted: 17 Dec 2016 11:14 AM PST Has there been any recent benchmarks that compare battery usage between Chrome and Firefox? I'm seriously considering switching over to Firefox, because of adblocking extensions, but I would like to know if there is any noticeable battery usage/load differences between those two. I know Chrome in theory could be more optimized, because it's Google's product, but still. [link] [comments] |
Why is my 64bit phone running 32bit Android? Posted: 17 Dec 2016 02:27 AM PST So yesterday I bought myself a nice Lenovo Moto G4. Good phone overall and performance/value is amazing. I'm very pleased with it. But, me, being a more into computers and stuff, I started looking deeper into Android and discovered that I am running a 32bit version of Android M. My question is why am I running a 32bit OS on a 64bit capable processor? (The processor is Snapdragon 617) Can I somehow flash a 64bit OS or am I limited by the manufacturer in some way? And is somehow the 32bit OS bottlenecking the phone? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |

Oneplus One Stuck in TWRP, and I'm out of ideas Posted: 17 Dec 2016 10:59 AM PST Hi, all. Like the title says, I cannot get my OPO to boot to the system. Whenever I turn the phone on or reboot from TWRP, it goes directly to TWRP recovery. I flashed new firmware, the newest CW 13 Rom, the newest version of TWRP, and gapps, but nothing has helped. I've also done several factory resets. I'm really at a loss here. Any ideas? Oh, and this happened last year when I was updating CM nightlies. After failing to figure it out then, I went back to my older phone (nexus 5), which I dropped last night -_- Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |

How to Turn off Chrome Custom Tabs? Posted: 17 Dec 2016 02:07 PM PST I notice Gmail has started opening links in Chrome Custom Tabs now! I can seem to find the settings to turn them off. I followed these instructions but I don't have an Accounts & Privacy I item in the setting menu https://9to5google.com/2016/04/27/google-chrome-custom-tabs/ In on Android 5 Thanks! Why do I have to use some 3rd party app to watch movies I transferred? Posted: 17 Dec 2016 02:07 PM PST I transferred some movies to my phone (Nexus 6P, running Android 7.1.1) - specifically to the "Movies" folder in the device. I would expect the "Play Movies" app to watch that directory and let me see my stuff (just like Play Music) does but it doesn't. I don't want to download some shitty 3rd party app. I'm sure there is a nice solution for this right here that I'm missing. Help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Dec 2016 08:00 AM PST As the title states, I forgot the pattern lock of my Moto G (3rd gen, 16gb / 2gb ram). There is no 'Forgot pattern?' button, the ADM lock option doesn't work either, and it's completely stock, so no recovery backup options. And ADB is turned off. There is an ADB option in recovery however, but this only lets me use sideload commands. Is there a way to bypass the lockscreen, or access the data on the internal storage? [link] [comments] |
Help/suggestions for organizing Google contacts Posted: 17 Dec 2016 07:47 AM PST Thanks in advance! I'm looking to clean up my contacts... forever! I was hoping there's an app that will help me but I'm not sure which is best for my wants/needs. My main goal is to sync my Google contacts with profiles on social media (Facebook, Instagram, maybe snap chat). If possible, it would be nice to automatically grab photos, birthdays, addresses if available from their social media accounts and have them sync to my Google contacts. Concerns I have: if I factory reset I want to be able to log into Google and have all the stored info load up without having to resync all social media accounts to my Google contacts. Aka I want to set my contacts to social media once and be done forever! Also, I don't want ALL my Facebook friends to sync in my Google phonebook, I simply want contacts already in my phonebook to have additional information from Facebook, i.e. Birthdays and profile photos. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this happen without too much pain/effort? [link] [comments] |

Google Pixel File Transfer Failing Posted: 17 Dec 2016 01:25 PM PST I have a folder full of pictures that is roughly 4 gigs that I am trying to transfer to my Pixel. Every time it transfers a few images then hangs for several minutes and then fails. I am running Windows 10 and Android 7.1.1 in File Transfer mode. I have tried with and without USB debugging enabled - same results both ways. Has anyone seen this before or have any troubleshooting ideas? It is rather frustrating given how I have never had any issues with Android file transfers in the past with any phone. [link] [comments] |

Switched from default "Messages" app to Google's "Messenger" app, now can't load push messages Posted: 17 Dec 2016 09:36 AM PST Galaxy S6 with Marshmallow on T-Mobile. I had some issues with the built-in Messages app. MMS notifications (group texts and picture messages) weren't showing notifications on my Pebble watch, and URLs in text messages always opened within the Messages app browser instead of my default browser (Chrome). So I switched to Google's "Messenger" app, and it fixed those two issues. But now when I receive a "push" message notification (like T-Mobile telling me I've used up 80% of my data plan), the notification will try to open in "Messages" instead of "Messenger", and when Messages opens, it gives a prompt to set Messages as my default messaging app. When I select "cancel" because I don't want to change my default, it won't load the message. If I clear the notification for the push message, the message goes away but shows up again in an hour or so. Is there a way to set Messenger as the default app for opening push messages? Or a better text message app that supports them? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Dec 2016 01:10 PM PST The reason I ask is because I want to connect my ds4 to my android but anytime I do the sound goes the second the ds4 is connected, I fixed this problem by disabling the audio routing in my s6 on Marshmellow but I can't seem to do it on KitKat [link] [comments] |

Titanium Backup can’t “see” apps on SD Card formatted as internal on marshmallow Posted: 17 Dec 2016 01:02 PM PST As title says, I can't backup apps installed on my SD card. It seems to be okay with apps that were installed internally first, apart from producing Data Errors on those. Apps installed by default to the SD (Monument Valley, Ridiculous Fishing) don't show up for backup at all. Is this an issue with Titanium Backup or an issue with something I'm doing? The only other thing I have tampering with the SD card is AppMgr3 to batch move apps to sd with root. Dirty Unicorns, Surnia, Marshmallow, SuperSU. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Dec 2016 12:44 PM PST My phone is starting to be really glitchy and I'm not sure if it's just because I have an older phone or the operating system. Apps will randomly close, Facebook and chrome are really bad. I had an update Nov. 19 to the kernel version and I'm using android 6.0. Does anyone know if there is a fix or something I can do? I have developer activated and the problems started to happen then. Is there a way to disable developer? I do have the animator speeds off thinking thatd help but it doesn't. Also, when restart or turn my phone off it does get better for a while. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Dec 2016 12:18 PM PST When I press the home or lock screen button, the battery life signal flashes for about a millisecond then it goes to black. Ive tried countless times to turn it off and back on, and I cant tell if it actually turns off or not, but when I power it up it just gives me the flash and then nothing. Ive googled it and it says to hold Home, Lock, and Volume Up and a menu will pop up, but nothing does. I didnt drop it or give it water damage or anything, this happened out of nowhere after a phone call. I tried r/techsupport and it wasnt very active and the one helpful response I got required a pc, which I dont have available to plug it into at this time. Wtf? Can anyone think of anything I can do or at least a better place to ask? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Dec 2016 12:15 PM PST I have an AT&T OnePlus 3, and I broke the screen. It's almost completely black, and the touch doesn't work. I keep getting texts and other notifications on it that I need to answer to, but I can't! Unless it's enabled by default, I didn't have USB Debugging enabled, which is required for many screen mirroring programs. What can I do?! [link] [comments] |
Slow Tablet despite free space. Posted: 17 Dec 2016 12:14 PM PST We have a tablet that's a few years old. The last few weeks it has been slow to boot and change screens and apps. The device has about 20 gb free space, although the cache is hovering around 1GB. Does anyone have suggestions on speeding it up a bit? I would clear the cache would that help since there is plenty of storage available? Would clearing the cache delete progress on someones game for example candy crush? Thanks [link] [comments] |
This shouldn't be so difficult in 2016, but I need a podcast app that works [rant inside] Posted: 17 Dec 2016 06:10 AM PST I describe my problems in detail below, largely to rant, but here's the tl;dr of what I need from a podcast app for Android:
When I'm driving in my car, my phone is connected to the speakers over Bluetooth and I'm either listening to music or listening to podcasts. Always. I use Google Play for Music. I know the interface isn't the most popular but it works for me and I love the service since I can upload my own mp3s to it and carry more esoteric music not normally found streaming. I digress. I have been using Pocket Casts to listen to podcasts for a little while now, but lately it has been giving me problems. The first problem is pretty basic. Say I've downloaded a string of episodes of a particular podcast. I click the first un-played episode and I listen to it. Normally, once that episode ends, Pocket Casts will automatically proceed to the next un-played episode for me. This is what I want! But recently when I finish an episode, Pocket Casts stops and it will show on my car's media display something like "No episode selected". It's waiting for me to manually play the next episode! Wtf?! The next problem is that Pocket Casts seems to conflict with Google Play Music. When I get in my car and turn it on, I expect the last app I was listening to to automatically start and resume the current track - whether that's a song in GPM or a podcast in Pocket Casts. This used to work pretty reliably. But recently it has been the case that even if I was listening to Pocket Casts previously, GPM seems to always take precedent when the Bluetooth connects. I have to then dig my phone out of my pocket, pause GPM, open Pocket Casts, and resume the episode I was listening to. Earlier this year, Google Play Music added Podcasts to the service. This was before I started having problems with Pocket Casts, but I was still excited because it meant I could just consolidate and only use one app rather than juggling two. But as many of you probably know, GPM's podcasting is really lackluster. There's no played/unplayed filter - you always have a complete list of every episode of the podcast. By default it sorts the list with new at the top, but that means you're listening to episodes in reverse order. If you change the sort you have to scroll a mile down to the bottom to find the latest episodes. Once you select an episode GPM would seem to create a playlist of sorts from your current episode to the last episode in the list at the time. If, while you're listening, a new episode is released, it doesn't get added to your current playlist. Oh, but then it got worse and stopped creating that playlist altogether, so that you always had to manually find and select the next episode. This caused me to abandon GPM for podcasts and return to Pocket Casts.. which now ironically has the similar problem of not autoplaying the next episode. What has happened to Pocket Casts? Did an update introduce bugs and break the autoplay functionality? Why is it so hard to get such basic podcasting features on Android? I'm hoping for recommendations of better apps, but my understanding was that Pocket Casts was the most popular and best option. [link] [comments] |
