Posted: 06 Dec 2016 04:01 PM PST I was reading this thread and when I checked the sources on the article I realised there are none, yet everyone was taking it as fact. I would like to point out that there is no point at getting upset until it is confirmed by Samsung that the s8 won't have a headphone jack. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Dec 2016 10:17 PM PST Hoping this is ok to post here. http://i.imgur.com/R1yJMeQ.png My father is 78 years old, he's living alone, he fell the other day and was unable to reach the phone. He is now fine, but of course I am worried about him. I go to bed around 11pm, while he goes to bed around 1am. So I set an alarm for 12:59am, to pre-wake me, and automated the call process to be directly on speakerphone (my phone charges on the night stand beside my bed). This way I know if he doesn't pick up, I need to head over and check on him. Thank you android, for being so completely capable of handling these circumstances. I tested it for the first time tonight and it worked beautifully. I'll rest easy knowing my dad is alright and I didn't have to lift a finger to do it. [link] [comments]
Ars Technica confirms that Android 7.1.1 improves touch latency on both Pixel and Nexus devices Posted: 06 Dec 2016 01:26 PM PST I made this thread after using the DP1 for 7.1.1 on my Nexus 6P for a week or so and having noticed a more responsive touchscreen after the update. If you scroll through the comments in that post, you'll see that more than a few people were quick to express skepticism or claim that I was experiencing a placebo effect. Well, in this recent article by Ars Technica, they make the claim that Android 7.1.1 cuts the touchscreen latency in all devices nearly in half of what was measured in 7.0.
I just wanted to bring this to the attention of anyone who doubted the claim (or just those who wanted confirmation), not for the purpose of saying I was right but rather to conclusively highlight this subtle improvement to Android that makes a palpable difference when using your device. This is the sort of improvement that will likely never receive much attention, but I think that it's pretty significant. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Dec 2016 09:54 AM PST So not long ago, I purchased the Axon 7 after losing my OnePlus 3. I thought it'd be fun to try a new phone plus Newegg was having a pretty good sale. Now, come to find out, there's a huge bug that kills Spotify, Snapchat, Pandora, Amazon Music, etc. (the list is getting longer by the day) when the screen sleeps. Some think it's a memory management issue while others think it's an aggressive power management issue. The ZTE thread is here: https://community.zteusa.com/thread/13134 Then, not long ago, I walk into Trader Joe's and try to use Android Pay to pay. buzz Asks for fingerprint verification. I scan on back. Then I scan the NFC again. buzz Asks for fingerprint verification. I sigh and scan again. buzz I get pretty embarrassed as I was holding the cashier up so begrudgingly reach for my wallet and swipe my card. The convenience of Android Pay is gone with the ZTE Axon 7 as I find out you have to enter your pin on the security screen after scanning the NFC; your fingerprint is not accepted. THAT thread is here: https://community.zteusa.com/thread/13411 and https://community.zteusa.com/thread/11466 I am unable to return the phone on Newegg because returns aren't accepted. I wrote this to warn others to think twice about the ZTE Axon 7 if they are heavy users of music apps or plan on using Android Pay. Any advice on how to return this phone is greatly appreciated. Update: Used ZTE's chat feature to try and get a return to no avail. The chat representative even suggested I leave my screen on while I play music. Transcript here. Modified transcript to remove my name. [link] [comments]

Google Wifi Family Pause - the feature your kids dread Posted: 06 Dec 2016 09:27 AM PST https://madeby.google.com/wifi/ Mine is now working in the Google wifi app after being disabled since the recent app update. My kids are going to hate me. I have the Onhub, and am glad it is still supported and can be used in a mesh if I want to do that. Best router I've ever had and Family pause adds a feature that is simple and works. I know other routers have something similar, but I'm glad I have it at last. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Dec 2016 06:10 PM PST As a student, I spend a lot of the day behind a desktop or laptop screen, working on whatever tasks I have to do. I'm also part of other student groups, so networking is really important. Having Allo on my desktop would mean I wouldn't have to be constantly switching between my phone and laptop at every moment in order to stay in touch. Hell, if google gave us a messaging platform that utilizes our cell phone number I would be forever grateful. Thoughts. [link] [comments]

[Canada] $20 Google Play Credit with Chromecast V1 Posted: 06 Dec 2016 02:47 PM PST Confirmed working on ALL V1 Chromecasts. If the offer isn't showing up in the Home app you'll have to update all devices to firmware version 1.22 by enrolling into the the preview program (use the Home app on Android), then rebooting the device. Anyone with a fingerprint scanner phone find the lock screen is becoming obsolete? Posted: 06 Dec 2016 03:48 PM PST Ever since getting my first fingerprint scanner phone, which basically unlocks from blackscreen right to the homescreen, I've barely ever used the lockscreen. I have a feeling lockscreen apps are about to take a hit when fingerprints are the norm! [link] [comments] |
