What is your opinion of google keep vs Microsoft onenote?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 12:21 AM PST

I've been using onenote on Mac at home and ipad for home use. I also use onenote extensively at work on a Windows PC.

For home/free I think onenote limits the number of saved items. Haven't reached the limit yet whatever it is.

Now with my new shiny GS7 android phone I'm wondering if Google Keep would be a replacement for Microsoft Onenote?

What is your experience and opinion between them both for home use? I.e. clipping recipes, saving lists such as grocery shopping lists, Christmas gift idea lists, personal notes, how-to notes, web article saves, etc. etc.

I have a large collection of text only based files I use with nvalt, notational velocity, and simplenote over dropbox. But now my saved files are growing and it's not just plain text anymore. It now includes photos, images, drawings, web clipped articles, etc.

I do not have hardly any experience with Google Keep but it looks a bit simplistic and underwhelming.

I have had content in Evernote, Onenote, notability, nvalt, Simplenote, Apple notebook, Samsung memos, Dropbox, Google drive, iCloud, Microsoft one drive, etc. My info is too fragmented across different apps and platforms.

Is Google Keep up to the task of me importing everything there and help keep it organized and searchable?

How does it help you organise potentially thousands of notes?

Once all my notes are in Google Keep is it easy to export everything in case of a move to another app/platform?

How do you keep all your notes (text, images, drawings, etc.) organised and in one place? And how portable are your notes in case they need to be moved to another service/app/platform.

This was easy when everything was just plain text. Now notes are a mix of media types.

Do you use apps installed from Unknown sources (outside PlayStore)?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 04:33 AM PST

Hi peeps! I recently switched from iOS to Android. On my iPhone I had some apps like MovieBox and PlayBox HD installed outside the AppStore. But on Android I am a little scared to install apps outside of the PlayStore... Reading all the time Android devices getting malware from apps installed this way.. Do you have installed apps outside of the PS? Give some suggestions for all kind of apps that are Safe.

suggested comic reader apps with Google Drive Support?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 05:50 AM PST

Hey all. Looking for a comic viewer app that has Google Drive support. I'm tired of moving files from my computer to my phone/tablet, so I'm looking for a good app that can do this and still have good functionality. There's a lot out there and some haven't been updated in forever -- any suggestions?

looking for an app to limit the amount of Notifications per timeframe

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 05:58 AM PST

I'm pretty sure I've seen this mentioned on here before, but I cannot find anything now. What I'm looking for is an app that will prevent getting many notifications all at once. For example, I have a friend that types in two word bursts, so when we're talking on Hangouts I get about 6 notifications per sentence. I'd like to receive one notification. Does anyone know of something like this?

Best reddit app for images?

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 10:26 PM PST

Most of my subscriptions are image heavy subreddits, so just looking to easily browse images. I've always used reddit is fun, but recently realized it's not the best for this

Which web browser for privacy / security?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 06:30 AM PST

Hi,
Since I don't want to send personal data to Google and other commercial companies, I'm used to having privacy-friendly web browsers like Firefox, Atlas, JumpGo...
The former is very slow on Android and the others are based on Webview. Either you keep the old and dangerous AOSP webview or you upgrade to Google's one.

Is there a decent web browser for privacy and security?
TIA

[DEV] Cast Controller | Watch Webvideos on FireTV/Chromecast (another 50 FREE Promocodes)

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 10:25 AM PST

Cast Controller v1.13 was released officially today, I'm giving away another 50 Promocodes, because of the great demand last time :) (see this thread)

Please leave a comment and I'll send you a code for Google Play via PM within 24 hours.

UPDATE: All codes were gone, thanks for the response guys :) As promised, I added some more (even more than 20) codes and will send them out to everybody who has commented by now (12.12. 9:00GMT). Next heap: 150 points for 50 more codes :)

Check out Cast Controller on Google Play

Cast Controller on XDA-Developers

Cast Controller Homepage

In a nutshell, Cast Controller is a tiny Browser, which detects emedded videos in webpages and lets you cast them directly to your TV with a single Tap. This little bastard excels in supplying your FireTV or AndroidTV with videos aside of the official offerings of Google and Amazon.

For the "enduser-oriented", official description, please refer to the App's Micropage, for more in-depth infos, check out the XDA-Thread or see the last discussion on Reddit

New Features in v1.13:

  • open, play or cast found videos with any other App on your phone - this brings support for even more devices like Smart TVs or Game Consoles, by starting the video in third party apps like AllCast, BubbleUPnP or LocalCast.
  • New built-in Popup Blocker for both Free and PRO Version.
  • Share or copy the link of found videos, to do whatever you want with it :)
  • Build a playlist of videos (PRO only - free via Reddit).
  • Added notification to control playback without opening the app
  • Added Android Nougat Multi-Window Support

Supported sites contain Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram, Twitch, Vid.me, Clipfish and Veoh, as well as every site using standard HTML5 video players or an actual version of JW Player. It also supports most "grey area" video streaming sites, like Streamcloud, Vidzi and you name it, and most big adult Tube-sites.

There's both a great YouTube video and written tutorial by GadgetHacks on how to use this app!

Can't open an app that's installed somewhere in my phone

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 01:48 AM PST

I'm trying to install and open an app, I installed it before. I updated the app an I want to open it on my phone. Now when installing the updated app it says "app not installed" and it won't let me open it.

As a previous version of the app has been installed before when installing it has the update ui with same permissions. I though of uninstalling the previous on from my phone but the MainActivity app is not in my app drawer!

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's kind of urgent, Thanks ahead!

What's the best app for extending sms texting, and file transfer?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 07:32 AM PST

By extending SMS texting, I mean to my browser on my PC. I was using AirDroid, but with the recent security issues, I thought it was time to look for something else.

Anyone have any suggestions or apps they use?

Wondering if some rss news junkies out there could share the .xml/.opml backup of their personal feed? Mine is a freakin mess lately and I'm tired of it. Thought this would be an appropriate sub to ask. Thx.

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 07:22 PM PST

Not sure if it really matters but I use greader w/ feedly. Willing to take a gander at anything but here's what I'm really looking for:

Pure news, for the most part, (political, business, top news, science & nature news, etc.) From various sources and all ends of the spectrum. From NPR to Breitbart. The more the merrier. I love it all, guys.

Not really into any blogs or news site blog posts, but if you have them in your feed I'll just toss them out myself if I feel the need to.

Honestly, I'll probably end up recompiling my own feed, eventually. But I'm also just kind of curious to see what other people's feeds look like.

As a second, bonus feed if someone could be so kind. I'd love a backup made up entirely of local news sources from all around the world (but only written in english)

Trying to compile a seperate feed like this is actually part of how my original feed got so screwed up in the first place. Hard to explain.

Thx again.

Issue I'm facing while using Signal and Wire

Posted: 11 Dec 2016 06:54 PM PST

When my friends message me using Signal, I don't get the message right away even though my internet is on and I haven't greenified the app. My friends also face this issue (they don't have Greenify installed) so we uninstalled Signal and tried Wire but we still have the same problem. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

[REQUEST] App that rejects calls on a temporary basis

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 09:44 AM PST

My wife gets a ton of calls daily from an automated system (substitute teaching offers) and the system leaves voicemails that quickly fill up her inbox. The built-in auto-reject feature probably does the job, but it's not a quick process to get to those settings (at least 4 taps) and multiple numbers need to be blocked (built-in auto-reject is per number, not per contact).

Is there an app that makes toggling call rejection for a single contact much easier? It would also be extremely helpful if rejection could be set for a temporary period (e.g. auto-reject for 1 hour).

REQUEST: Android Music Player w/ default tempo setting that plays playlists

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 05:37 AM PST

The new version of the default Samsung music player is Google Play. The old version of Google Play on my old Samsung phone had a Tempo option, where I could set the default play speed of 0.8, 0.9, etc., so I could listen to music a little bit slower as I was trying to learn how to play it on the guitar. The music player on my new Samsung phone doesn't seem to have a speed AKA tempo option. What other options do I have for a music player with a persistent tempo option? Music Speed Changer doesn't play playlists.

[DEV][GAME] Confusing Colors - Are you faster to name the color of the word than your brain reads the word? [100 promo codes]

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 08:55 AM PST

Hello! Would like to share you my latest game called Confusing Colors. You need to select the right color of the word, but not the text itself. This confusion is called the Stroop effect. For example, if the word GREEN is shown in red, you should select RED.

Are you faster to name the color of the word than your brain reads the word?

You may not be able to process the information quickly enough or may not pay enough attention to always get it right. We leave you in confusion.

Game modes

  • Classic - Keep the time as low as possible.
  • Arcade - Keep on playing until you are confused.
  • Zen - Score as much as possible until your time is up.
  • More levels to follow.

Google Play Games

Compare your score on the leaderboard and unlock achievements. Challenge your friends!

Download

Confusing Colors can be downloaded on Google Play or XDA Labs. The app is still in development and new features will be added. Feature requests are welcome.

Promo codes

Here are 100 promo codes you can redeem to remove ads. Enter your code in Confusing Colo(u)rs > Shop icon > Redeem.

[DEV] Multi Yatzy | An offline yatzy app

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 01:58 AM PST

Hello,

Relatively new dev here, looking to get some feedback for my offline yatzy app. Since most yatzy apps seem to have online component or require social media login, I figured to make one which doesn't require internet connection.

Get Multi Yatzy from Play Store

The app has some (hopefully unintrusive) ads but it's the only thing the app uses internet for so simply blocking its access to internet will get rid of the ads.

Any and all feedback very welcome.

I know this is a very specific request but is there an app for it?

IOS like Keyboard?

Posted: 12 Dec 2016 06:29 AM PST

Hello!

NO I'm not a Apple fan, to get that out of the air. BUT I do think the accuracy on the keyboard on IOS seems to be better (maybe just for me personally). Is it the software on IOS, or just the look of it? In any way, is the a solid keyboard for android, that looks »almost« the same?

Thanks!
