Can anyone point me in the right direction for learning about how to integrate a server side component for things like user accounts and authentication?

Posted: 15 Dec 2016 08:24 PM PST

First off, I apologize if the title is a little hard to decipher what it is I'm asking.

But essentially I'm looking to create some sort of server that I can use to do user authentication for user accounts and also store some data relevant to the app for each user. I don't plan on distributing the app through the play store or anything. This would just be for a limited number of users, so I don't need complex hardware or anything. Ideally I'd like it to be able to run on like a raspberry pi, in a VM, or just low powered hardware.

I'm open to learning a new language for the server side stuff if needed (which I suspect will be the case). I also realize I might be getting close to being outside of the Android topic here, so if there a better subreddit for this sort of thing let me know. But could anyone point me in the right direction for learning about what I'm trying do?

Thanks!

How do I fix my camera?

Posted: 15 Dec 2016 11:40 PM PST

For my camera in Android, I use the camera2 API.

My current issue is that, in portrait mode, my preview is squished horizontally. So things will appear much longer than they actually are. I've tried setting the SCALAR_CROP_REGION to a 16:9 and a 4:3 rectangle, but both still have the same problem. I also applied a scale matrix to the TextureView to a 16:9 rectangle, which fixes the horizontal squishing issue, but cuts off what you can see in the preview tremendously.

My question is, how can I eliminate this squishing issue completely, while still showing a lot of area in the preview? Thanks in advance for any help!

edit: I just realized how dumb my title sounds but I can't change it.

MVVM architecture with the data binding library

What are my options for publishing closed source library?

Posted: 15 Dec 2016 02:08 PM PST

I'm going to release a closed source library soon and I was thinking about publishing to jcenter or mavencentral, but those two support only open source libraries. I was thinking about GitHub as a maven repository, but that is a really bad idea because it is just a file system. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Actually, I saw a few closed source libraries on jcenter...how?

Posted: 15 Dec 2016 05:43 AM PST

Can anyone suggest the advantages of using openjdk over oracle jdk. I thought performance of oracle jdk is better(my speculation). If i switch to oracle jdk what will i miss? what do i gain in terms of performance of AS?

Running AS 2.3 canary 3 on Mac with bundled openjdk.

Realistic cost

Posted: 15 Dec 2016 09:18 AM PST

What is the realistic cost of a android/iOS game? I have an idea that hasn't been done and I think it would make a good game. How much would this cost? Think of the tycoon games..... that's the style.

I want to figure out the best way to raise money to get it made and would like to be very realistic.

Thank you for any info
