Just small postmortem of our game, I guess Posted: 01 Jun 2016 07:22 AM PDT Hey community! Today I wanna share you story about soft launch of our game. Reveal all pitfalls were we trapped so you can maybe avoid yours. Here's the story: It starts 2 years ago when in our small team of 6 members we decided to make several games at once, the team #2 was making this certain game for almost 14 months and got 0 results. Only shitty prototype and huge GDD was made. Then these 2 were fired our team lead asked me to head the game design of this game and other programmer to code it based on ready made prototype. I didn't suppose to change basic mechanic at all. Game is simple time killer with 1 mechanic, cool 3d cartoonish graphics, quite fun to play. BUT I told my boss at beginning that making time killer for that long is quite risky, better to spend more time and make normal F2P game. He refused and we made a time killer. Expensive (2 years in development), fun, good looking time killer. 1st pitfall where we trapped was massive user tests. Game is PVP and server based. So if you have game like that make sure it will survive when users massively will start to log in into your game. We didn't test this part and it was a disaster after. 2nd pitfall is marketing. No one had experience in marketing, neither we had a huge budget and sense to spend a lot of money on marketing time killer :) so I decided to give it a try and try to promote it myself. We got budget from our boss in amount of $3k for soft launch. I decided to spend it on different UA channels and I picked CIS countries for soft launch as I'm originally from one of them and know audience quite well there. Yes they don't pay, but they play a lot and they are quite cheap to acquire. Also I wanted to launch it in some English speaking countries, I read everywhere that companies soft launch in Australia and New Zealand as users behavior there is similar to US. I tried facebook CPC campaign instead of CPI since our login was made on web form because we had login via twitter and our programmer didn't use Facebook SDK that allows to launch CPI campaign( which is most cost effective). And this was pitfall #3. NEVER user CPC campaing on facebook NEVER! We have spend around $400 there, we got over 80k impressions, over 3k clicks on ads and only 21 installs from AU and NZ. So at the end we paid $19 per install !!! NEVER do that! In CIS countries I've found one traffic network that asked us to integrate tracker which measures their installs which Google Analytics don't do btw. So if you ever decide to buy traffic - make sure you install some tracker sdk, there are plenty of them. TUNE is most common, I can give you link to sign up as they don't have that link on website. Only after sales representative will call you they will provide. TUNE itself is kinda tricky, they allow you to use their service for 3 months only or 1,5 mln installs. Then the entry paid tier is $599/mo. and provides you up to 750,000 cumulative daily active users for the year. It's quite good instrument to have if you are doing mass paid UA campaign. otherwise Google ANalytics is your choice. So after we integrated Tune and our traffic network partner in there. We paid them $1000 for 909 installs. $1.1 per install. And that's where we trapped into pitfal #4. This was a total disaster. There appeared a bug, when users couldn't simply login into game. The programmer who made this game got fired himself because he was tired and wanted to focus on his own projects. And other programmer that we had on another project wasn't able to catch this bug. It was simply ghost. So after 3 days of suffer we lost 80% of users that traffic network gave us and we got 22 1 star reviews because of that. Our score dropped from 4.9 to 3.4 right away! Then we got back old programmer and he spend 1 more week to find and fix bug. Yet this traffic helped us to get into top new category in some countries and brought us some organic. During that time we already ordered paid review on one of very popular russian tech websites with great community and DAU. For $254 for article and support in their social networks we got around 700 installs already which is $0.3 per installs and the most effective channel that we had so far. But because of that bug we lost them pretty fast. Yet we still get some organic in amount of 50-100 installs daily but it's nothing. As conclusion here are few numbers:
Now my boss wants to launch it globally, do no marketing and forget about it :( During campaign I got around 50 users who wrote me that game is cool and they will keep playing it and hope there will be update. P.S. I also tried other channels of UA. Tried to write to review websites I have a huge list that I got somewhere here on reddit, but it ididn't help simple because no one replies. I still hope that we'll get some more users, but we'll see, If someone managed to read that to the end and interested in further results let me know I'll keep this post updated. Thanks! I hate card games but y'all got me hooked on Star and Cthulhu Realms. Posted: 01 Jun 2016 08:32 PM PDT Amazing games, just wanted to give an open recommendation to anyone like me who kept seeing the name and never trying it out. Already bought Star Realms vanilla and deciding where to go from there. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.starrealms.starrealmsapp&hl=en https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whitewizardgames.cthulhurealms&hl=en [link] [comments]
[DEV] A 3D, Polandball-based game. Posted: 01 Jun 2016 11:47 PM PDT This is a 3D rolling game with a twist, you control a cube instead of a ball. This adds chance to the traditional rolling sphere game, think about throwing a football on the ground and trying to catch it on the second bounce. The game is new so feedback and suggestions are welcome! Also no ads for the foreseeable future (too many bugs to justify it). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.GevaltEnterprises.OyVey [link] [comments]

[DEV] This is metaBall - a unique ball rolling game! Posted: 01 Jun 2016 01:54 PM PDT Hello everyone, we are pleased to announce our second game! metaBall is best described as Marble Madness meets Q*Bert (in a Tron like universe). You control and move a ball around the play area flipping tiles, dealing with obstacles and beating the clock. Gameplay is much more arcade than physics oriented and it ramps up nicely from super easy to "OMG I HATE YOU FOR MAKING THIS!"
We've looked all over and nobody has done something quite like this so it's exciting to have a new twist on a well known genre!
Features:
We invite you to check it out and let us know what you think!

How is Romancing Saga 2 for those who have played or are playing it? Posted: 01 Jun 2016 06:30 PM PDT I've come to realize lately that these days I only really enjoy playing RPGs and jrpgs anymore, and so this game caught my attention. I love final fantasy games, but I've played pretty much all of them, so I'm wondering if this is worth grabbing. It costs a good amount so I don't want to just blindly buy it! [link] [comments]
Looking for a turn-based, team-based RPG Posted: 01 Jun 2016 01:53 PM PDT So to clarify from the title, I'm looking for a RPG that has the following traits: -Turn-Based -Team-Based (i.e. multiple characters) -World persistence (i.e. character improvements are permanent and are not playthrough based) -Significant amount of character development options -Significant amount of tactical depth -Playable on a Note 4 Galaxy of Heroes and Final Fantasy are two examples of games that I'm looking for - but I'm looking for more options. Anyone know of any? [link] [comments]

Most powerful GB/GBC/GBA emulator? Posted: 01 Jun 2016 07:12 PM PDT I'm wondering what the most powerful emulator for that around is. I'm looking to have the entire GB, GBC, and GBA libraries on my phone, but most emulators start struggling after a hundred games, many unusable beyond 300. Any ideas? Do I need a separate emulator for each to lighten the load? Am I doing something wrong? [link] [comments]
